Tonic w/ Artanker Convoy
We love to play at Tonic. Its so casual. This time we had one $10 camera that Arthur of Artanker Convoy got for us at a garage sale, and one nice camera, each on its own projector. As usual, everything was created from available light. No computers, and now pre-recorded source tapes. The theme for the evening was "nothing can stop us from enjoying this." Does it show?

CMJ @ Tonic w/ Artanker Convoy

CMJ refers to the College Music Journal's huge gathering in New York every year. Artanker Convoy and MUX were part of the scene. It was a complete psychedelic set. The band wore all white to suck the visuals into them, but being in the picture, they never actually see the effect they help to generate. The MUX players all wear white for synchronicity, though there usually isn't any video on us. Other bands from the Social Registry, the label the Convoy is on, also played. Telepathy, one of the bands, had an interesting overhead projector analog of the algorythmic video we do. We hope that Tonic will be around for a long time to come...

Render @ Dancenow/DTW

The last US performance of this work by Japanese artist Naoko Kikuchi was also her last performance before she left the country. Naoko did dance one other piece in this modern dance sampler and received a standing ovation at the curtain call. She made quite a buzz in the dance world. For more information about Render check out our Works page.

Labor Day Rooftop Party

Well, we thought we were going to Brazil. So we had this fund raiser on a rooftop in Greenpoint. The turnout was good. We didn't charge anything for admission. Instead we served up all kinds of grilled goodies and wine and beer. The money will pay for our DVD production/duplication, which WILL get us to Brazil sometime next year.

Miss Williamburg w/ Artanker Convoy

Once again we can't help MUXing it up with the Convoy. We dropped the visuals on a plywood wall in the courtyard. Without dancers it was on the visualists to make the light dance on our own. We doubled up the feedback units and went crazy analog math. Very enticing results (pictured above). Artanker Convoy sadly ended too soon, and we had to gracefully decline Brooke's request to MUX for the other bands. We like to mix it up, but not at the same party. Too risky.

Mozambique w/Taanteatro

Live Video Environment for two hour Dance-Theater piece directed by Taanteatro with dancers, musicians and singers from The Municipal Chant & Dance Company of Matola, Mozambique.
Much was learned on this trip about the struggles of creating art in a competitive political climate. There were very few easy moments in the intensly short development period with the Chant & Dance Company of Matola. The performance happend in the city's cultural center and the largest theater in the country, Theater Africa. Two days later it also aired as a special on National Television. In the end, art is worth the effort. If you can read Portugese get more details on Taanteatro's website "Xiphamanine"

Galopagos w/ Artanker Convoy

A fair well show for Chris Seeds and Lindsay. They are off to India for two months. The Seedless summer sessions begin. Galopagos is such a great venue, but it always seems a little too loud in the main space. Alas, we super funked up the set with no plan and maximum determination. This right after our performance of Force Feed @ Joes Pub. Love the double header! Might try to avoid that in the future, but in this case it worked flawlessly. MUXlove baby! That's the power of positive thinking.

Force Feed @ Joe's Pub

Force Feed premiered May 7th, 2005 at the Thalia theater/Symphony Space. It was then shown at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater as a part of Dance Now's Dancemopolitan. It was like nothing they'd seen before. Then Andy, Nicole, Bruna and Gene crowded in the car and buzzed to Galapagos to MUX it out for Artanker Convoy.

"The search for synchronization in a landscape of digital obliteration."
2nd annual entry in Keigwin Kabaret, a crazy mix of modern dance, burlesque and comedy. The New York Times chose Keigwin Kabaret as one of the ten best dance shows of 2004 (when MUX presented RENDER). Good times were had by all and the glitter still haunts us.

Egoist (US premiere) @ Monkeytown

This has been one of our favorite sites to date. The audience sat on low futons, served designer food while the screens surrounding them spun the story of Egoist. Encompassing the audience in the piece with four huge screens was a dream. This 45 minute show was a hit.
This multi level evolution of self brings MUX to fruition at Monkeytown in Brooklyn. Dinner was tasty, as were the treats.

Render (US premiere) @ Kiegwin Kabaret

Render was invited to be part of Keigwin Kabarets premier at Thalia Theater at Symphony Space. This was the beginning of a long successful run of RENDER with the stunning Naoko Kikuchi.

U-hall loft party

Tucked away in a Chelsea loft by the water, our friend Jont hosted the hot U-Haul loft party for all the hipsters in the house. Nicole suspended herself above the crowd; hanging, climbing and writhing in the video projections. Bruna and Andy projected from the front and below while Andres shot projections directly behind her and onto the opposite wall. The crossing of the two videos created a hypnotizing live animation over the crowds' heads. This show was MUX's first free-form conversationalism.
